WK3 CARDS


Paperclips, Less than half a deck of cards
Wind force applied in a certain direction allowed the structure to stand up, since the surface area was very minimal from the certain angle. cards were placed on the base to maintain balance

WK2 STRUCTURES


STRUCTURE 1: Bamboo skewers with glue
structure went flat after first load was applied. completely failed  when an imbalanced force was applied, causing it to sheer and fail. thin glue joints of the structure were the weak points, causing the failure.



STRUCTURE 2: Bamboo skewers with elastic bands and fishing wire
Very strong structure. Tightly wound rubber bands and fishing wire didn't cause much expansion when compression forces were applied to it. was capable of holding up person without "buckling".



Structure 3: Paper
structure failed. Wad unable to maintain stability. If the rolled up paper was perfectly flat and stable underneath, it would have been able to hold a great amount of compression forces.

WK1 BRIDGES


BRIDGE 1: Bamboo skewers with glue. Truss structure from above
The main reason of failure on this bridge are the joints. The bamboo skewers are fairly resilient, the glue couldn't handle the tensile force created from the load.



BRIDGE 2: Bamboo skewers with elastic bands and fishing line. The same structure as bridge 1.
The rubber bands holding the skewers together started to stretch but not break. This bridge also required an extra push before falling through the tables.




BRIDGE 3: Paper. Rolled up paper design.
This design was very strong. Able to hold up a great amount of force. Sheets of paper were rolled up to create a very solid structure. Eventual failure would have been caused by reaction force from table creating creases on each end of the structure
